RC Rally Car Racing combines the scale realism of full-size World Rally Championship (WRC) motorsport with the fast-paced, highly technical nature of radio-controlled racing. Positioned between on-road touring car racing and off-road buggy racing, it requires cars to navigate high-speed sections, tight hairpins, and jumps.

The cars themselves are designed around true scale realism, using detailed scale replicas of iconic rally vehicles like the Ford Fiesta WRC, Subaru Impreza, Lancia Delta, and Mitsubishi Evo. These bodies feature realistic wings, lights, and aero profiles to match their full-sized counterparts. Unlike flat-bottom touring cars that sit just 5mm off the ground, rally chassis feature an elevated ride height, typically between 8mm and 15mm, along with long-stroke shocks to handle jumps and bumps. To maximise traction across these changing surfaces, most competition rally cars use four-wheel drive systems powered by belt or shaft setups with sealed gear differentials.

Racing takes place across a variety of formats and surfaces. Traditional outdoor rally racing is run on dirt, gravel, asphalt, grass, and pavement. For indoor events special rally courses utilise high-grip carpet mixed with ramps, jumps, chicanes, and rumble strips to simulate stage conditions indoors. Depending on the club, races are organised either as head-to-head heat races on a closed circuit or as timed "Stage Races" where drivers navigate a course individually against the clock, mirroring real-world rallying.

Racers are drawn to this class for several reasons. The unique dynamic driving style forces drivers to master power-drifting, Scandinavian flicks, and precise throttle control as the car transitions through corners. Additionally, the full-coverage scale bodyshells and flexible suspensions make these cars much more durable during impacts than exposed-wheel buggies or low-slung touring cars. Watching detailed WRC replicas slide sideways or catch air over jumps creates some of the most spectator-friendly and visually appealing action in RC motorsport.
